Tutorial : How to root the Sony Xperia U

Launched during Mobile World Congress 2012, the Sony Xperia U has been a favorite among those looking for an affordable mid-range device for themselves. Though the Xperia U doesn’t come with a hefty price tag, but that doesn’t hinder it from having a sleek and elegant design. If you happen to own the Xperia U, then this tutorial is for you. This tutorial will guide you on how to root the Sony Xperia U in less than an hour, so that you can install custom ROMs and other root only apps onto the device. But before we begin, I would like to warn you that during the process of rooting, there is a risk of bricking your own device. So if you still want to proceed, you’ll be doing it at your own risk and we will hold no responsible for any form of damage on your device ( please also note that rooting voids your warranty as well ). Make sure you’ve already backup your device!

 

*This procedure works only with a PCs running on Windows OS.

 

1. Please make sure your device is currently running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, if not please update the device to Ice Cream Sandwich.
2. Download the Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v18  package.
3. Extract the files to your desktop.
4. Enable USB Debugging on the Sony Xperia U, by going to Menu > Settings > Developer Options > USB Debugging.
5. Connect the Xperia U to your PC using a USB cable.
6. Execute the RunMe.bat application.
7. On the program, select the Normal Mode option.
8. Select the Root option.
9. Follow the few simple steps on the program.
10. After it has sucessfully rooted the Xperia U, reboot immediately.
11. Congratulation you’ve successfully rooted your Sony Xperia U!
12. You should be able to locate the Superuser app in your device after rooting.

 

Simple isn’t it? Yeah, but even though it is simple, but do be very cautious during the process to ensure your device doesn’t brick by your mistake!
